Laura Numeroff is coming to Thomas Street!
Ms. Numeroff is an award-winning children’s author! She has written many of our favorite books, such as If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, and many, many more, In fact, she has authored over 30 books!
Several of Ms. Numeroff’s books have been recognized by the Renaissance Learning and Accelerated Reader programs in the 2008 listings of “What Books do Students in Each Grade Read Most Often, Overall, and by Gender”. If You Give a Moose a Muffin was ranked number 11 by First Grade students and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie was ranked number 1 and number 9 overall by Second Grade and Third Grade students, respectfully. These rankings came from check-out data on approximately 250,000 students nation-wide who use these reading programs. WOW!
Perhaps a somewhat unfamiliar title to many families is The 10-Step Guide to Living With Your Monster. Ms. Numeroff donates a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this humorous book to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Research Foundation.
Ms. Numeroff stays busy! She has a new book coming out September 30, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, and embarks on a 20 city book tour in October and November of this year.
So…isn’t it exciting that Thomas Street will be hosting Ms. Numeroff in September! Yes, Ms. Numeroff will be coming from her home in Los Angeles, CA to work with our Thomas Street students on September 15 and 16, as well as giving a Community-wide presentation on Monday evening, Sept. 15, 6:00-7:00 in the Thomas Street auditorium. The community-wide presentation is your chance, as parents, to meet, greet, and listen to Ms. Numeroff, as well as purchase any of her books. She will be available for photos and book signings, too!
How was Thomas Street Elementary fortunate enough to have Ms. Numeroff come to our school? The Association for Excellence in Education (AEE) in Tupelo funded a grant to bring Ms. Numeroff to Thomas Street. Our Thomas Street PTO is also funding part of her visit, so these two groups deserve a big “THANK YOU”! If you have not joined these organizations that promote the continued quality education for our students, please do so. You can become a member of AEE for as little as $25.00 annually and a member of our Thomas Street PTO for $6.00. Both of these organizations will be represented at Ms. Numeroff’s Community Night presentation on Sept. 15, so please plan to join!
A book bonus! Any family that joins AEE during the Community Night presentation will be eligible to win an autographed copy of one of Ms. Numeroff’s books. How exciting that you have the opportunity to join this educationally supportive Tupelo group and possibly win a personally autographed book, along with meeting Laura Numeroff! It doesn’t get more exciting than this!
