The Tupelo Public School District is diverse in its services to promote the wellness for every student. TPSD is fortunate to have four nurses employed through North Mississippi Medical Center that serve six schools in our district grades K-8th. This partnership provides health services to the following schools: Carver, Lawndale, Milam, Church Street, Lawhon and Tupelo Middle School. A nurse funded through the Tobacco Grant at Joyner Elementary School also serves TPSD. There are two district nurses who are responsible for the remaining schools: Tupelo High School, Fillmore Center, Rankin, Thomas Street, Pierce Street, Parkway and Martin Luther King, Jr. Early Childhood Education Center.
The role of the school nurse is to provide preventative health services to facilitate the student's physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. We help identify problems and disabilities, and we provide early intervention services and care in order to prevent more serious health problems in the future. Our goal is to support the educational process by working with all members of the learning community to assure the well-being of the students.
