2009 Elementary Restructuring Plan
Date:October 17, 2007
Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Today the Facilities Utilization Advisory Team voted to present its elementary reorganization plan to the Tupelo Public School District Board of Trustees at its October 23rd meeting.
It was stressed that the plan addresses the Facilities Utilization Team’s charge to the Tupelo Public Schools:
1. To extend the goal of a 15 to 1 student/teacher ratio beyond kindergarten and 1st grade to include grades 2 and 3 as well
2. To provide an educational environment for our elementary students with no more than four schools sharing the same grade configuration
3. To provide greater school stability for our student population in grades K-6
4. To insure that our elementary schools are more demographically similar in terms of the number of poverty and non-poverty students
5. To create “Clean Feeder Schools” that are not, or do not have to be, split as they feed the grade configurations in the upper elementary or middle schools
