A Dyslexia Grant has been written by Tupelo Public School District per-sonnel.  This grant has been approved by the State Department of Education, and it outlines a plan of support for students with dyslexia and related reading difficulties.  The plan includes the following:

  • Wilson Anderson, a certified fellow in the Orton-Gillingham Academy of Educators and Practitioners, will be in the Tupelo Public School District in September to review our existing services and resources and to provide feedback and advice concerning our proposed services.

  • Selected K-3 teachers in the Tupelo Public School District will receive professional development training from Wilson Anderson to consolidate the learning they experienced through completion of   the ten-hour, subscriber level Orton-Gillingham online training.

  • Wilson Anderson will provide fifteen days of training during the 2006-2007 school year.  He will work in K-3 classrooms across the district to provide hands-on observation and training to classroom teachers.

  • A Tupelo Public School District Orton-Gillingham resource selection committee has been organized to research and to recommend reading resources that are specifically recognized for their success in supporting students with dyslexia.  Mr. Anderson has agreed to provide guidance for this group.

  • A district wide resource list is currently being compiled to assure   the availability of resources for any Tupelo Public School District students who are experiencing dyslexia or other reading difficulties.
