Five Tupelo High School seniors were recognized as National Merit Semifinalist. During the 2005-2006 school year, there were 8,234 Mississippi students from 242 schools took the PSAT-NMSQT. There are 144 National Merit Semifinalist representing Mississippi. These Tupelo High School seniors are: Matthew Hink, Natalie Holland, Ben Kellum, David Rice, and Megan Pike.
Communications to the Board
2006-2007 Strategic Communication Plan
At the noon meeting Chuck McIntosh, Bancorp South Corporate Communication Specialist and Chairman of the TPSD Communications Advisory Committee, presented the 2006-2007 Strategic Communication Plan to the Board.
Facility Utilization Consultant – Report on Progress
Deputy Superintendent David Meadows presented a brief report on recent progress related to the identification of a Facility Utilization Consultant to work with the Facility Utilization Advisory Team in preparing a recommendation for the future reorganization of the TPSD elementary schools.
Administrative Meeting – tentatively set for October 6, 2006 at Hancock Leadership Center
Board members are invited to attend this meeting which will include an idea session.
Nationoal School Board Association Conference (NSBA) – April 14-17, 2007
Notification of Action of the Commission on School Accreditation
The Board was notified that during the meeting of the Commission on School Accreditation on August 31, 2006, the Tupelo Public School District was awarded a 2006-2007 accreditation status of “Accredited” in recognition of full compliance with the standards of the Mississippi Department of Education and the Commission on School Accreditation. The “Accredited” status is the highest level of accreditation that can be achieved at the district level.

Members of the Board were reminded that District I School Board Training will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, in Amory, Mississippi.
Mississippi School Board Association (MSBA) Fall Leadership Conference
Members of the Board were reminded that the MSBA Fall Leadership Conference will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson, Mississippi.
Update on Major Test Procedures
Superintendent Randy McCoy discussed information gained from meetings that were held with teachers at Tupelo Middle School and Tupelo High School concerning procedures used when returning major test papers to students. For example, students are allowed to review test papers, grading, and ask questions about the tests.
