Monday, December 10, 2007
Tupelo High School recently self-reported a violation of Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) rules governing basketball. The violation consisted of the THS boys’ basketball team participating in a practice session with an out-of-state team without receiving prior permission from the MHSAA to do so.
As a result of this violation, Tupelo High School will be assessed a $ 500 fine, the THS boys’ basketball team will not be allowed to participate in any regular season basketball tournaments, and the THS boys’ basketball team will be placed on probation from December 10, 2007 – February 8, 2008. The Tupelo High School boys’ basketball team will be allowed to participate in post-season tournament play.
The MHSAA commended the Tupelo High School boys’ basketball coach, athletic director, and school administration for their cooperation during this investigation. The Tupelo Public School District regrets that this unfortunate rules violation occurred, but our school district remains committed to strict adherence to the rules of the MHSAA.
