The following students placed in the 2008 Cellular South Gum Tree Writing Contest: 1st place, Jacie Rinehart and (2) 3rd place winners, Dacia Buchanan and Carrie Lee Cook. Their entries are outstanding among numerous other writing pieces. We are very proud of these 3rd grade students who attend Rankin! Enjoy their poetry...
Chocolate Bar by Jacie Rinehart
I have a Webkinz reindeer.
His name is Chocolate Bar.
I bet he wishes to be real
So he could fly up to the stars.
I bet he’d be a part
Of pulling Santa’s sleigh
To bring presents to the children
To open Christmas day!
But even though he’s not real
He’s still my favorite pal
So we’ll just sleep in my bed
And snuggle up for now.
The Challenge Poem by Dacia Buchanan
Tuesdays are so much fun.
To Challenge class I love to run.
New experiments are fun to try.
It’s my favorite class, I can’t lie.
I learn new things every day.
Team building games and chess we play.
It makes me smarter you can see
That Challenge is where I love to be.
Work by Carrie Lee Cook
Work is hard in the yard.
Grab your shovels and your rakes.
Today is the day we give it all it takes!
Grab your gloves and your hat too.
Then get out there and let’s get his through.
The sun is hot and very rough
But it doesn’t stop me because I’m tough.
