AEE presented the "Innovation in the Classroom" award to Rankin's BACKPACC club!
Innovator, Carmon Dye, thought of an incredible idea to involve every child in giving back to their community and helping others in need. The program was then implemented by the Family/School Coordinator, Tammi Coggins and Counselor, Lacy Bailey. The BACKPACC club (Become A Caring Kid, Produce A Caring Community) was implemented during the 2006-2007 school year and once again, will be in place this school year during the last 30 minutes of each day. Through BACKPACC, the students learn to recognize their role as a community member as not merely one taking and receiving services, but their individual roles in giving back to their community. This program provides an opportunity for every child in the school to participate in unique, innovative, but most of all caring ways. While many schools involve their students in charitable work, this program is exceptional because it involves EVERY child and their warm, caring spirits.
