The Polar Express Visits Thomas Street Students

Date:December 15, 2007

ALL ABOARD!!!!!  The Polar Express is winding through the snow covered mountains to the North Pole!!  It’s time for Santa to give the first gift of the season!!  Yes, this is the story based on the book, The Polar Express, written by Chris Van Allsburg.   Each year at Thomas Street Elementary this story comes alive!  The Media Center is transformed into a winter wonderland.  The conductor leads the students to the train car.  They walk through whirling snow and across the snow covered ground.  It is so cold!! You must have a ticket to get on board.  Your seat is identified by the number on your ticket.  The children are fascinated as they begin their journey.  As the book is read aloud, each page is shown on a large screen.  What a fabulous adventure.  Afterwards, the conductor tells each student to look under their seat for their first gift of the season.  And, of course, it’s a silver bell.   Chefs serve hot chocolate and cookies.  Students then get to select a new book to take home with them!!

Thomas Street started the Polar Express adventure four years ago.  Each year it seems to get better and better!!  It is a beautiful message about believing with the innocence of a child!!
