“FRED FACTOR” AWARDS

TPSD has the privilege of presenting the first District-wide “Fred Factor” Awards.  A “Fred Factor” Award is a very special recognition because it represents effort and action that exceeds an employee’s job description and expectations.  In fact, the “Fred Factor” Awards are more than just doing your job at the very best level.  We sincerely appreciate our employees who strive to do their jobs “to the very best of their abilities,” but the “Fred Factor” Awards are given to those people whose actions go even above and beyond this level of performance.

Our first recipients…

This year these two teachers had a student in class whose mother recently died.  The day that they were notified of the death, these teachers organized and delivered food to the family.  They purchased clothing for the children and took the clothing to the home.  They then took time to make sure that the clothing fit the children and even made an extra trip to the store to exchanges sizes.  Now that the children are living with an elderly grandmother, they call the home to check on the children daily and have also sought other resources to provide for the needs of the family.  This kind of love, caring, and compassion certainly qualifies them for a “Fred Factor” Award.

TPSD is pleased to present “Fred Factor” Awards to Joyner Elementary Teachers Marla Gray and Lisa Collins.

Our next recipient received an Association for Excellence in Education grant titled “Books on Wheels.”  This grant helped him purchase books so that he could deliver these books to children’s homes for them to read during the summer months.  His study of educational research pointed out that many children regress in their academic learning over the summer due to not reading.  On the other hand, children who do read during this time make significant progress.  This employee identified those disadvantaged students and visited their homes every two weeks during the summer.  He would exchange their books for new ones making sure that the children always had interesting books to read.  In addition, he spent time with parents showing them ways to support their children and to encourage the habit of reading.  His efforts in behalf of Family Literacy during the summer months qualify him for a “Fred Factor” Award.

Again, it is a great privilege to present this “Fred Factor” Award to Church Street Elementary Family School Coordinator, Anthony Key.
