Pierce Street Elementary School received the Mississippi Arts Commission’s Whole Schools Initiative Model School Award again for the 2007-2008 school year. Mr. Malcolm White, Executive Director of the Mississippi Arts Commission presented a beautiful plaque to our students and staff on Thursday, November 29. Mrs. Martha Cheney, Field Adviser for the Mississippi Arts Commission Whole Schools Initiative attended the Award Ceremony also. The Pierce Street Choir performed for our visitors.
This award is granted to schools in recognition of excellence in arts education through performance and high quality curriculum and instruction. Pierce Street Elementary School also receives grant money with this award that is utilized to provide drama classes for our students, to buy art supplies, and for our spring Arts Festival.
