The Paw to Read program is doggone successful at Lawndale Elementary! Rhudy comes regularly to school to listen to children read, and he loves what he hears. Of course, his handler comes, too, and sometimes a teacher like Mrs. Tina Fitts helps with the sessions. But, it's really all about Rudy and the student. Rhudy is a poodle who's trained to be a silent partner in the reading process. He brings his doggie blanket with him, and he and his reading partner chill out and do some major reading! By reading aloud to Rhudy, students develop more confidence, experience success and strengthen oral reading skills. Paws to Read is a nation-wide program designed to improve the literacy skills or children. Lawndale is proud to be one of the first schools in the district to bring students and a fury friend together to experience the joy of reading.
