Since It was impossible to invite all of Tupelo's community helpers to come to speak to Ms. Sharronda Evans's first grade class, Flat Stanley went out to visit with community helpers for a week. The class has since received some of the Flat Stanleys back with letters about what he did with the community helper and what he learned. On Friday, March 2, at 10:30, the class will open their letters. One of our Flat Stanleys appeared on WTVA News Morning Show. Palmer's Grocery Store has also displayed a welcoming message on their daily specials boards outside the store that displays Flat Stanley's name, Ms. Evans 1st Grade Class, and our school name along with the Kaleb Steverson's name who sent the Flat Stanley to Palmer's to visit.
Throughout this project the students learned about using a map to locate places in Tupelo, letter writing, writing a Thank You note, measuring, estimating the cost to send Flat Stanley through mail, community helpers, comparing distance and time to travel around Tupelo, and much more. This was a great learning experience for the students.
Come by next week and enjoy the display in the first grade hall!
