Author Michael Shoulders visited Joyner on August 31, 2007, to help kick off this year's Accelerated Reader program. Mr. Shoulders is the author of several children's books including M is for Magnolia and 1Mississippi, 2 Mississippi. D is for Drum is his new book that he featured. He emphasized how important reading is with raps and etc. He also told what it is like being a children's author. Mr. Shoulders' visit was sponsored by the Scott Reed Family, Reed's Bookstore, The Daily Journal, Breakfast Civitans, and CREATE.
