Tupelo Public School administrators listened Friday as Dr. Dallas Blankenship, Scott County Kentucky School Superintendent, and Mr. Gene Childress of the Center for Quality People and Organizations presented an overview of the QUEST program. Dr. Randy McCoy wanted Tupelo’s school leadership to have the opportunity to learn about QUEST and Toyota’s impact on Scott County Schools and Georgetown, Kentucky.
QUEST (Quest for Useful Employment Skills for Tomorrow) began as a partnership between Toyota and Scott County Schools. As teachers and administrators in Scott County incorporated the QUEST tools of teamwork and problem solving in the Scott County Way, they realized that students were more engaged and test scores were up. Beginning this month, Dr. McCoy will be leading the Tupelo Public School District’s review of its strategic plan. He began the process in August, by teaching the Tupelo Way to new TPSD staff and pointing out to veteran faculty its similarity to the Toyota Way. “Knowledge of the QUEST tools will be very useful as we strengthen our tradition of excellence,” said Dr. McCoy. Dr. Blankenship reminded administrators that Toyota chose our area because we fit the Toyota culture. “Tupelo Schools with Dr. McCoy’s leadership is doing great things,” he said.
