Citizens of Public Schools sponsored an event to showcase the Tupelo Public School District’s elementary schools to children who’ll start kindergarten next fall. “We’re just trying to provide a fun-filled day for preschoolers and expose them to the Tupelo Public Schools,” coordinator Julie Gibens said.
Over 150 preschoolers from city childcare and learning centers came to participate in the activities. Booths were set up from Church Street, Joyner, Lawhon, Parkway, Pierce, Rankin, and Thomas Street elementary schools as well as the Parent Forum and Tupelo Public School District Board of Trustees.
At each stop, children were given souvenirs and information to take home to their parents. “Our booth will have a beach theme with luau music playing and a limbo bar,” said Tammi Coggins of Rankin Elementary School. “It will be very kid-friendly, very bright and cheerful.”
