2006-2007 TPSD Teacher of the Year
Cynthia Colburn
Gifted Teacher, Carver Elementary School
The Tupelo Public School District Teacher of the Year excels in expanding the academic, social, emotional and physical growth of her students. Mrs. Colburn wants to make a difference in the lives of others the way that her parents made a difference in the lives of other people. She feels that every morning as she clips on her nametag that states “Excellence in Education” it reminds her that her students expect the very best of what she has to offer.
Our Teacher of the Year is a member of the Governor’s Teacher Advisory Council of Mississippi as well as a legislative committee member of the Mississippi Association of Talented and Gifted. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and she conveys her expertise to mentor National Board applicants. She has also made presentations at state, regional, and national conferences. Her primary goal is to see every child succeed and to provide a more hands on approach to learning. She is a leader in the teaching profession and maintains the love and enthusiasm for teaching. She is truly an inspiration to her students, her parents, and her peers.
